What Our Data Says About Brands That Benchmark vs. Brands That Don’t
Written by Jack Linnett (Co-founder & CEO)
Every brand has climate disclosures.
But not every brand knows how they compare.
When we look across sectors, a clear pattern emerges:
Brands that benchmark:
✅ Identify gaps faster — and prioritise where action matters most
✅ Build credible comms by putting results in context
✅ Are more confident engaging regulators, investors, and customers — because their data is evidence-led, not cherry-picked
Brands that don’t:
⚠️ Struggle to prove progress — numbers exist, but lack meaning without context
⚠️ Risk over- or under-claiming in comms, creating compliance headaches
⚠️ Miss competitive advantage — unable to show stakeholders how they lead vs. peers
The difference isn’t in how much data is collected.
It’s in whether that data is anchored to something comparable and credible.
Benchmarking doesn’t change the facts.
It changes the story the facts can tell.
👉 The question for modern brands isn’t “do you have climate data?” — it’s “do you know what it means compared to your peers?”
